Shape control of sine

Postby Geomol » Mon Jan 24, 2011 9:41 pm

The shape control of sine for oscillator 1 isn't working. According to the xils3_user_manual page 14, it should add odd harmonics for the sine wave. This also seem to be the behaviour of the original Synthi. I guess, the intended behaviour can be heard at http://www.thesynthi.de/data/aks-guide.swf. Choose "To explore the Synthi click here", then "Oscillator 1" and "Shape Control". There is some further explanation and the possibility to hear it.

Thanks for an interesting product!

Yes, the shape control affects the tri/saw output of Osc 1, rather than the sine output! Another bug.

FYI, this was noted in the Sound on Sound review of the XILS 3,

Unfortunately, there’s a significant error in XILS 3’s oscillator 1, whose Shape control is linked to the sawtooth wave, not the sine wave. This is a shocking mistake!

I'll post here to awake this thread, because I do I agree that it would be nice to add just a dash of harmonics to the sine wave... Maybe in the next update? Xavier?

Hi,

you're right, the shape isn't applied on the sine wave.
Maybe in an update (I plan to update the XILS 3 in something bigger, but not found the time yet)

Best regards

Xavier, thanks for your reply. It is very good to hear that you are still working on the Xils 3! I really hope you find the time to read my other posts too, because I am having some weird behaviour of the Xils3 and I'm not talking about any special routings. It's the basic stuff such as velocity response, glide modes, sequencer errors, LFO to panning etc. that behaves very very weird. For more explanation on these issues, please read my recent posts on the forum. I'm open to communication and willing to assist in any way I can, perhaps by making patches that demonstrate the specific issues (that saves you some time). Are we not allowed to post patches on the forum, because I was going to upload a sequenced patch in another post but this didn't work, I always get the message: The extension is not allowed. I even tried renaming the extension, no success.

Hi, bought yesterday this wonderful tool, as i understand this described above problem not resolved at this time ? I try change shape value with sine wave and no result. :|
Apologies for krossposting, I already got the answer to my ^ question.

But I've found another bug, but not sure what it is:
"Delay" and "Fade" knobs in LFO section it seems same do not work. Check please, maybe I'm wrong.

Hi,

To make the LFO working with Delay and Fade-in its input trig must be connected to something (the keyboard trig for instance)

Best
