The more I read this thread, the more I'm puzzled.

I tested it on Live 8 and Logic 8 without problems, so I really don't understand what could happens.

Two points could avoid the input to be sent to the output, they are obvious, but it worths to notice them (even I think you tried them already) :
_ Input level (on the main interface) : this know set the level of the input channels. At zero, no input would be heard.
_ Input gate (on the input advance panel) : as every gate, there is a level . If the input is below this level, then no signal will be heard

but on the preset you tried the input level was set to the middle and the input gate level to the minimum.

Furthermore, you tried the project I did with Logic 8 without success.
This is a real problem for me.

Is there a way that you can send me a project I could try (here on the forum, or directly by email if you prefer) ?

XILS in Live

Postby cowudders » Tue May 25, 2010 12:31 am

Hello Xavier!

This might be interesting:

Ableton's Live can host both, AUs and VST-plugs. Short Xils-outcome: The VSTefx version does work (!!), The AudioUnit does not.
Just to let you know, I also tried your attached Logicproject again on a different setup - no output. Tried several buffer settings, it seems to me xils doesn't know about the incoming audio .. :ugeek:

One thing that caught my eye when looking how you have labelled the versions in Live, was that in the VST version 'XILS 3' is the instrument and 'XILS 3 efx' is the effect, while with the AudioUnits 'XILS3' is the effect and 'XILS 3 instr.' the instrument.

I'd be more than happy to exchange anything you want, the way you want me to - just let me know what you need.

thanks & cheers,
bernd

I should have been more clear with the name of the plug-ins !

VST :
XILS 3 : is an instrument.
XILS 3 efx : is an effect (MIDI controlled).

AudioUnit :
XILS 3 instr : is an instrument
XILS 3 : is an midi controlled effect

Within Cubase or Live, you can't use the wrong plug-in. In instrument tracks only the instrument can be inserted, in audio tracks, only the midi controlled effect can be inserted (I didn't yet test this with Logic)

BTW : I don't have any more 10.5 on my systems, only 10.4 and 10.6. But I will check on 10.5. Maybe it is an OS relative bug.

below a tutorial video I just did, to explain a little more the possibilities of the XILS 3 as an effect (sorry there are not yet audio comments)

http://fr.440tv.com/video.php/v/3761/Le ... r-d-effets

But this doesn't explain your issues and I'm looking on this deeper.

Thanks cowudders,

Here some more tests (by someone else, as I don't have 10.5 on my system anymore) :
on LIVE 8 :
insert Audio, insert XILS 3 : it's working fine
insert XILS 3, insert Audio : it isn't working !

I did the same test on 10.6 : the both are working fine.
So it seems that I have to reinstall 10.5 somewhere to fix this !

sometime if setting the seq input mode into Step, both external keyboard or XILS keyboard sound nothing.
no sound output. and the Step note input doesn't work at all. but sometime it works, i.e. 20 minutes ago...
even i'm thinking if some sequenced patches sound correct....

my system 10.5x.

hi x,
would be great if the AU-fx would also work in 10.5, if you find the time for this!

Hi Xavier,

I want to report that the Audio Unit effects processor version of XILS-LE does not pass audio in Digital Performer 7.12, nor in Garage Band 4.1.2, while running Mac OS 10.6.3 and the new 10.6.4. The synth AU version works just fine in both programs. I am using the newly-released V1.06 version of XILS-LE, but the old version did not pass audio, either.

I think, to be accurate, I/we should say "receive audio" instead of "pass audio," because the plugin does not seem to get the audio input at all; patching the inputs to the meter does not move the meter at all. So, the problem seems to be getting audio into the plugin, not getting audio out (you can patch together a synth and get oscillator output as normal).

Thanks,

Joe

P. S. - really enjoying the synth! You have made an excellent re-creation of the original (used to compose using a real one in the 1980's), with high-quality audio algorithms - thanks!
